EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT: Senator Eshilokun Empowers 261 Students With Scholarships

In a demonstration of strategic and progressive stewardship in the 10th National Assembly, Senator Wasiu Eshilokun Sanni, representing Lagos Central Senatorial District, has provided educational support through scholarships to 261 students.

The empowerment by the senator was aimed to provide scholarships and educational support for students under his constituents for the 2025 /2026 edition.

Speaking at the 7th Town Hall Meeting held on Thursday in Lagos, Senator Eshilokun reiterated that education plays a significant role in shaping the future of the youth.

Senator Eshilokun, who stressed the need for youths in his senatorial district to cherish and embrace education, disclosed that a total of 313 entries were received before the screening process that produced the final 261 beneficiaries.

Eshilokun, who also serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Marine Transport, stated, “I don’t see an alternative to education because I have been influenced by society; hence, I am supporting educational projects.”

He further urged the beneficiaries to contribute their quota to the development of their communities, noting that education is the bedrock of a developed society.

 

According to him, the funds will be distributed to the students through their respective Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards via Wema Bank accounts.

Eshilokun, who described the exercise as “My Strategic and Progressive Stewardship in the 10th Senate Thus Far,” recalled that market women, artisans, barbers, photographers, and confectioners benefited last year in Surulere and Eti Osa, respectively. He added that grinding machines, sewing machines, generators, deep freezers, tricycles, school bags, welding machines, and buses were distributed as part of constituency empowerment.

He also explained that in 2023, 2,000 elderly citizens benefited from cash gifts and fabric, adding that in 2024, the amount was increased to N20,000.

He said, “We celebrated our elders under the Elderly Citizens Assistance Scheme with the theme ‘Our Elders, Our Fountain of Wisdom’ at a programme held across all 13 Local Government Areas/Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of the Lagos Central Senatorial District.”

In the scholarship exercise, a total of 114 students from Lagos Island Local Government Area benefited, making it the highest number, while 33 students emerged from Eti Osa LGA.

Surulere had 59 beneficiaries, while Lagos Mainland recorded 30 students who benefited from the scholarship.

Others include Iru, Victoria Island, and Ikoyi-Obalende, each with one student, Apapa LGA with 19 beneficiaries, and Yaba with two student beneficiaries.
