One Dead, One Missing , Fifteen Rescued , As LASWA Confirms Boat Mishap Along Ikoyi -Lekki Axis

The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has disclosed that there was a boat mishap on Wednesday 21st February 2024, around the Ikoyi -Lekki link bridge axis.

LASWA in a statement signed by Wuraola Alake, Public Relations Unit of LASWA , said an inbound Ibeshe passenger boat with seventeen passengers had a collision with a submerged shoreline concrete at a construction point around the powerline corridor at the Lekki-Ikoyi bridge.

According to her, fifteen passengers have been rescued with one casualty, while search and rescue mission was ongoing as at filing the press statement.

Alake noted that the Ibeshe passenger ferry named T- Ben departed the Addax Jetty and the incident occurred at about 6:50 pm local time.

She added that combined officers from the search and rescue unit of LASWA, Lagos State Ferry Service (LAGFERRY) and other private boat operators were at the location of the incident combing to rescue the missing passenger.
