NIWA Decries States Govt Non Compliance To Revenue Lull

The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has  attributed  setbacks  of its operations to some states government in the littoral region of non compliance and  corporate organizations disrespect which in turn has led  to huge debt and revenue lull.

Managing Director of NIWA , Dr. George Moghalu disclosed this recently , during the Mission To Seafarers (MTS) 2021 symposium held in Lagos .

Moghalu who also disclosed that some of the corporate organizations and states government failure to comply led to huge debts  but maintained that such issues would soon be a thing of the past.

Though Moghalu declined to mention some of the states government and organisations involved in the huge debt profile owe the agency, he noted that the Agency has acquired at least 20 patrol boats.

According to him,  some of the patrol boats have been deployed to some area offices across the littoral state, stressing that operations of the inland waterways authority has been effective in recent times.

He reaffirmed that NIWA has engaged members of the Importers Association of Nigeria and Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) on the need to embrace movement of cargoes from Lagos seaports to the Onitsha river port through barge operations.

The Managing Director maintained that in the area of infrastructure, NIWA has also constructed a new jetty in Yenagoa ,Bayelsa Kogi and Adamawa states respectively.
