Nigerian Navy Enhances Personnel Proficiency With Small Arms Firing Exercise In Ondo State

The Forward Operating Base (FOB) Igbokoda, under the Western Naval Command, successfully conducted its 2025 quarterly Small Arms Firing Exercise and Range Classification on April 30, 2025.

The exercise, held at the 323 Artillery Regiment Military Range in Akure North, aimed to sharpen the weapon handling and marksmanship skills of naval personnel as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen national security.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, who flagged off the event, emphasized that the exercise was a critical strategy for enhancing Nigeria’s security architecture amid rising security challenges.

He praised the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to professionalism and operational effectiveness, expressing confidence in the armed forces’ capacity to counter criminal activities.

Rear Admiral Michael Oamen, Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, highlighted that the exercise was the final phase of the command’s first-quarter training, which began in Lagos.

He reiterated the importance of continuous training and teamwork to ensure personnel are prepared for national assignments and capable of responding to security threats.

The Commanding Officer of FOB Igbokoda, Captain Aliyu Usman, noted that the exercise provided a valuable opportunity for personnel to test and improve their arms proficiency, which is essential for preventing accidental discharges and enhancing community security
