MWUN Hosts GMT Management, Advocates Conducive  Environment For Workers

The President-General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, recently welcomed Tim Maguire, the Managing Director of GMT, at the Union Secretariat located on Osho Drive, Olodi Apapa, Lagos.

GMT, a prominent shipping company based in Apapa, Lagos, has long maintained a strong relationship with MWUN. Maguire’s visit was both a congratulatory gesture on Comrade Bunu’s recent election as President-General and a reaffirmation of GMT’s commitment to supporting his leadership and the Union’s objectives.

According to a statement by Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Head of Media, MWUN, Maguire praised Comrade Bunu as a distinguished labor leader and maritime expert whose significant contributions to the sector have been widely recognized even before his appointment.

He described Bunu as a man of integrity and professionalism, qualities that have strengthened GMT’s confidence in continuing their partnership with the Union.

Maguire emphasized GMT’s desire to nurture this relationship for the continued advancement of the maritime industry.

In response, Comrade Bunu highlighted the Union’s firm stance on workers’ welfare, stating that the Union will only oppose companies that treat their workers unfairly or marginalize their rights.

He affirmed that MWUN is committed to supporting companies that respect and value their workforce, noting that Union members are well-trained and expected to deliver optimal performance. He also reiterated the Union’s readiness to discipline any worker found neglecting their duties, underscoring the importance of accountability within the sector.
