Master Mariners , Port Administrator, Ex-Naval Chief Top List For MAN Oron Rectorship

The presidency is working tirelessly to find an apt Rector for the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN) Oron,Akwa Ibom State, DAILYFOCUS NIGERIA has gathered.

The foremost maritime academy has no rector at the moment following the resignation of Commodore Duja Effedua (,rtd) .

Recall that Effedua who was appointed in November 2017 and was subsequently re-appointed for a second term in September 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari, tendered his resignation letter at the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.

The ex – Rector on Wednesday, November 13, tendered his resignation over what he called, “personal reasons”

Insider source from the presidency reiterated the Bola Tinubu administration commitment to appoint a new rector for the academy, and that a professional will be selected instead of politician.

The source who crave for anonymity stated that the president is passionate about the Marine and Blue Economy due to the immense wealth and contributions to government revenue drive, hence capacity building plays crucial to that effect.

According to him, the school will get a new rector in January and the federal government is shopping for a candidate who has experience in marine and education related background.

He stressed that names of some Master Mariners, Shipping and Port Administrators, Educationalists in maritime related field , retired Naval Chiefs top the list of individuals pencilled down for the appointment.

Our source added that the appointment by the President will have nothing to do with tribe , religion,politics or nepotism adding that professionalism is of top priority.

Meanwhile,acting Rector of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, Akwa Ibom, Dr Kevin Okonna who has stepped in as acting Rector.and is piloting the affairs of the academy till date.
