A delegation from the Secretariat of the National Economic Council (NEC) inspected the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line on Thursday, praising Lagos State’s integrated transport programme and confirming plans to connect the Red Line with the Blue Line at National Theatre Station.
Led by Ondo State Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget Hon. Laolu Akindolire, the NEC team visited the Red Line to monitor implementation of NEC resolutions and review development projects with significant socio‑economic impact across the federation.
According to a statement, while briefing the delegation at the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Technical Adviser, Planning Engr. Osa Konyeha—speaking for Managing Director Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo—said the Lagos State Strategic Transport Master Plan envisions a multimodal network that includes six rail lines, one monorail, 14 Bus Rapid Transit corridors, more than 20 water routes and complementary roads.
“Part of our immediate priorities is to connect the Red Line with the Blue Line at National Theatre Station to boost inter‑line connectivity and seamless passenger movement across the rail network,” Engr. Konyeha said.
He added that construction on the Green Line will begin soon and plans for the Purple Line are underway as Lagos expands public transport options.
Konyeha also said the projects are being implemented as an integrated system to improve linkages between rail, road and water transport.
He highlighted the Omi Eko initiative to open additional waterways and introduce energy‑efficient electric ferries.
Hon. Akindolire commended Lagos State for its investments in transport infrastructure and urged other states to replicate projects that deliver tangible benefits to citizens.
The NEC inspection provided a progress check on one of Lagos’s flagship transport projects and underscored the administration’s focus on integrated, sustainable mobility solutions.
