In continuation of consultation with Stakeholders’ towards finding a lasting solution to the maritime sector activities, that has plagued Apapa and its environs with incessant traffic gridlock, the Lagos State Government (LASG), Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), Nigeria Police Force (NPF), and Truck Transit Park (TTP) have reached a resolution on the strategy to be adopted for the new e-call up system for trucks operations in and out of Apapa.
According to a statement signed; Mr. Oluwatoyin Fayinka,Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation and Chairman, Special Traffic Management Enforcement Team, the resolution was agreed upon on Thursday after thorough consideration of all parties involved, to effectively eliminate the traffic congestion experienced in the State through port activities.
At the meeting which held at Lilypond Terminal, the parties agreed that a new e- call up system will commence on Saturday 27th February, 2021 as the existing call up for trucks will be discontinued from tomorrow, 26th February, 2021, due to its inefficiency to manage truckers operations in and out of the ports.
The statement added that “It was also jointly agreed upon that by 4pm tomorrow 26th February, 2021, all articulated vehicles will be prevented from entering Apapa and its environs and subsequently by 12.00 noon on Saturday, 27th February, 2021.
According to it, trucks in and around the ports access roads are all expected to have vacated the corridors, with strong warnings for truck owners and drivers to adhere to the resolutions to prevent harsh reactions from Government.
“In addition, the parties also urged all Stakeholders, especially truck owners to cooperate with the State Government as it makes consolidated efforts to create ease in movement for its citizenry safety, welfare and health which are of primary importance.
The NPA had declared that no truck will be allowed into the seaport except obtaining the Eto app,as part of the e-call system.
Similarly, the Lagos State Government had also declared that it would clampdown on articulated vehicles parked along the corridors .
