As part of his continued contributions to the educational sector in the Country, the former Minister of Education(State) Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi has established the “The Gbagi Foundation’s Endowment Fund for Edwin Clark University for 500 Nigerians.
Attached to the endowment fund is a draft of six million naira issued by Gbagi Foundation in favour of Edwin Clark University, ECU.
Olorogun Gbagi who was represented by his wife, Hon. Justice Sybil Gbagi made the announcement of the fund at the University’s maiden convocation ceremony held in Kiagbodo Community, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.
Olorogun Gbagi who is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Gbagi Foundation said,” In the actualization and effective utilization of this fund, the foundation will liase with the Vice Chancellor, the University’s Accountant and/or other such nominees of the University and my humble self to formulate and implement a workable action plan for effective implementation.
“At this juncture, to the glory of God, humanity and to the memory of Pa. Robinson Ajigheye Gbagi, I hereby present the N6,000,000(Six million naira) draft for the take-off of the scholarship fund.
” Similarly and on behalf of the Gbagi Foundation, I present to you, these documents detailing the structure of the Trust fund, the States of the Federation of Nigeria constituting the catchment area entitled to this fund, the great people of Delta State accross the three (3) Senatorial Zones, and most importantly , as charity they say begins at home, Oginubo, the nearest Community to Kiagbodo”.
Giving a breakdown of the Endowment fund, Mr. Emmanuel Idahosa Esq said,”10 slots for each States of the Federation, making it a total of 350 slots.
“Oginubo shall be entitld to 50 slots. Delta Central will have 25 slots. Delta South will have 25 slots. Delta North will as well have 25 slots. The physically challenged will be entitled to 10 slots. The girl child will be entitled to 5 slots.”
Meanwhile, Elder Statesman and onetime Minister of Information, Pa. Edwin Kiagbodo Clark was today silent on the gubernatorial gubernatorial ambition of Olorogun(Barr.) Kenneth Gbagi, former Minister of Education (State).
The Niger Delta leader addressed newsmen shortly after the maiden convocation ceremony of Edwin Clark University in Kiagbodo Community.
Pa. Clark was asked to give his views on the six million endowment fund instituted by Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi in Edwin Clark University as well as the gubernatorial ambition of Olorogun Gbagi in 2023.
In response he said, “Look, sometimes you ask questions, I used to be Minister of Information. You can’t combine two things together.
” Through me, Gbagi became Minister of Education. My relationship with Gbagi has nothing to do with funds.
“He came to me that the only contribution he can make is to endow the University to 500 students every year. When the time reach, they will have scholarships. 250 for Deltans, 250 for the rest of Nigerians. That’s what he said.
” I think the 6million endownment is a signt that he believe in what we’re doing and they will work with the University to achieve it.
“You remember in 2015 when the students were admitted, I gave scholarships to 50 of them. They were not paying fees.”
While noting that the University is not making profit, Pa. Clark said,”At my age, I should contribute to the development of this Country having opened the University of Benin and that of Minna, I said I should look back home to establish one for myself and that’s what I have done and it has succeeded. So, I thank God.”
