EMPOWERMENT: Senator Eshiolokun Doles -Out Cash Gifts To Youths, Traders ,Promises Int’l Scholarship 

Apparently determined to empower youths and traders within surrounding  communities,  Senator elect representing Lagos  Central Senatorial constituency , Rt Hon. Wasiu Eshiolokun Sanni (WES) on Friday, empowered no fewer than sixty five students and forty Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) with cash gifts in furtherance to boost capacity building.

The lawmaker who reaffirmed strong commitment towards repositioning  educational values for students under his constituency noted that the move was part of efforts to build trust from those who voted him in the recent 2023 elections.

Eshiolokun reiterated that the scheme will be extended to students of Lagos State thus,will not be limited to his constituency.

The Senate elect who also celebrated his birthday in Lagos , promised to do more for the people under his constituency adding that the All Progressive Congress APC will not disappoint at all level.

He stated that”Let me commence this with my heartfelt appreciation to the entire people of  Lagos Central for your passionate support and echo  of confidence as reflected in  your vote for our dear party, All Progressive Congress(APC) In just  concluded elections.

“This is not just a renewal of the social contract between the Electorate  and the elected, but a show of reposition of trust in us. Let me restate our commitment that we shall not let you down. Asiwaju shall not let you down. Sanwo-Olu shall not let you down. And, WES Shall not let you down,both  in my primary duties as a lawmaker and my other developmental duties in which we shall even do more.

In furtherance of not letting you down, may it be noted that, the 24th day march 2023, we further our annual steps toward the fulfillment of our convention to our people ln Our strive to secure and protect our common future by making education affordable to all the qualified students Our communities.

“Taking from the wisdom in the Chinese proverb that say, “if you are planning for a year sow rice;if you are planning for a decade, plant  trees, it you are planning for a lifetime, educate people”. It is my belief that aiding the affordable education of eligible students in our communities is the way of Safeguarding the Futures of our children and procuring Sustainable development In our communities.

While highlighting the benefits of education for the youths, the Senator stressed that”: Our journey to procure the license for the good future of our children through mass education started many years ago, and I am dedicated to doing much more, because I understand that education is the enduring life of a Society as it disseminate and radiates across generations.

He added that “From my efforts at the local government on education through the building and rehabilitation of schools and vocational centers; our Free Jamb Form initiative; free school buses services, to the scholarship scheme, amongst others, our aim is to make education not Just appealing but also affordable to all our willing children. Let me reiterate we shall do even more than before.

He explained that :”This year’s scholarship award is the 11th edition of the scheme where students are meritoriously selected by the panel that comprised of schools principals and leaders of this committee. The criteria as I was informed included indigency residency, Citizenship, discipline, etcetera.

Eshiolokun noted that “The committee has thereby dutifully ratified the qualified students for this year’s full undergraduate scholarship while some of the students will receive our consolatory prizes.

“It is my hope and prayers that these set of students will further be found worthy of the award for subsequent years till they complete their studies as this will signify that they do not fall below the selection standards.”

Also, the senator affirmed that the plans are afoot to sponsor students to postgraduate level both local and International adding that “This, however, depends on them as further screening will be done to determine the awardees in the following years.

“Hence, it is incumbent on this year’s winner to continue to be worthy in learning and characters, so they can continue to enjoy the benefits of this scholarship. It is my desire and prayers to God to enable me to extend the various education schemes not only by the awardees, but to cover postgraduate studies  in Nigeria and abroad.

“Kindly permit me to also note our commitment that by this time next year, this scheme shall transcend the Lagos Island students. we shall extend it to cover the whole of Lagos district and by inference, Lagos Central. this, will be the reflection of your mandate given to us.

“I want to use this opportunity to appreciate the works of the Chairman of the Education Committee and her members. Their dedication to selfless services cannot be overemphasized. Likewise, permit me to appreciate the efforts of all the members of the Screening panel principals and our leaders who altruistically key into our mission of changing the world around us by educating our children whose knowledgeable critical thinking and innovations will become the bedrock of the better future will all crave.

“My unreserved appreciations to all the people that have faith in us and belief in our agenda.

 

“According to Shai keshef when you educate one person you can change a life, when you educate many you can change the world’, Here we are educating our children, our efforts here today will definitely not be lost in the euphoria of the present, but the Future changes that these children will propel Shall have our names cast in gold.

Highpoints of the birthday celebration put together by the senator was the presentation of bank drafts to traders and youths; speech presentation by the daughter of the senator, Miss Maryam Eshiolokun , portrait presentation to the lawmaker from some of the traders, etc.

While the the students were empowered with 75,000 naira each, the traders were given 40,000 bank drafts to support their respective businesses.
