CRFFN Raises Concerns Over Revenue Challenges, Seeks Shippers’ Council Support For Capacity Building

The Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) has expressed concerns over its challenges in generating revenue from international operations, particularly regarding Practitioners Operating Fees (POF).

Registrar of CRFFN, Kingsley Igwe, made this known during a courtesy visit by the CRFFN delegation to the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) headquarters in Lagos.

Igwe revealed that CRFFN is currently grappling with significant challenges, especially in revenue generation and capacity building. He appealed for the NSC’s support in training freight forwarders to meet international standards and strengthen Nigeria’s logistics value chain.

He disclosed that CRFFN has already developed a comprehensive training curriculum but requires adequate resources and suitable training facilities to implement the program effectively.

The Registrar also commended Dr. Pius Akutah’s efforts in sanitizing port operations and expressed confidence in the NSC’s continued support.

Welcoming the delegation, the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of NSC, Dr. Pius Akutah, emphasized the importance of synergy among agencies under the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy. He stressed the need for a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two agencies to strengthen their operational framework.

Dr. Akutah reaffirmed the NSC’s commitment to deepen collaboration with CRFFN to enhance freight forwarding standards across Nigeria.

He highlighted the critical role of inter-agency collaboration, noting that no single agency can achieve success in isolation.

Dr. Akutah also pointed out that the establishment of the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy by President Bola Tinubu underscores the Federal Government’s strong commitment to economic development. Therefore, agencies under the Ministry must operate professionally to fulfill the President’s vision for the sector.

He praised CRFFN’s restructuring of the freight forwarders’ registration process, particularly the incorporation of Know Your Customer (KYC) protocols, describing it as a vital step toward improving industry standards.

Finally, Dr. Akutah urged CRFFN to uphold and enforce compliance standards to align with global best practices.
