COVID-19: Lagos Dissociates Self from Fake Job Vacancy Advert

The Lagos State Government, through the State Ministry of Health, has dissociated itself from an advert making the rounds, especially on social media, about job vacancies at the COVID-19 Lagos Isolation Centres, describing the announcement as totally untrue and false, made-up by dubious minded individuals.

A statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs in the Ministry, Mr. Tunbosun Ogunbanwo noted that the vacancy advertisement did not emanate from the Lagos State Government, the Ministry of Health or the COVI-19 Lagos Incident Command System.

He, therefore, urged the citizens to disregard the vacancy advert in its entirety and rely only on official communication channels of the Lagos State Government and the Ministry of Health for news and information on COVID-19Lagos Response.

“This is the work of fraudsters and mischief-makers who are bent on exploiting the COVID-19 pandemic situation to swindle unsuspecting citizens willing to volunteer in the war against the global pandemic of their hard-earned money”, he asserted.

The Director explained that the Ministry is currently investigating the source of the unsolicited advert, assuring the general public that the Lagos State Government will do all in its power to apprehend the authors and bring them to book.

Ogunbanwo also warned people to desist from sharing any suspicious or unverified news or information on COVID19Lagos and always notify the State Government about such suspicious report for necessary action.

Also, the State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the appointment of Mr. Babatunde Oladeinde Williams as the new Special Adviser on Labour and Industrial Relations with effect from July 2, 2020.

A letter signed by the Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola stated that the appointment took cognisance of the appointee’s track record, especially his outstanding performance and accomplishments in Industrial and Labour Relations.

Williams, a former Senior Special Assistant and Special Adviser to former Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Labour Matters, is an indigene of Lagos Island, grassroots politician and experienced Labour and Industrial Relations practitioner.

He graduated from the Lagos State University with a BSc (Hons) in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management (IRPM), holds a Diploma Certificate of the Academy for Social Sciences and Social Study in Sofia, Bulgaria as well as a Professional Certificate at the International Institute of Cooperative Studies, Tel Aviv, Israel.

The newly appointed Special Adviser began his political career at the old Lagos Mainland Local Government Area where he was elected twice as a Councillor and later served as Vice Chairman, Yaba Local Council Development Area.

Williams, who is happily married with children, is expected to bring his wealth of experience and knowledge to bear in the management of a conflict-free industrial relations in line with the policy thrust of the present administration.
