The Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has inaugurated a seven-member Public Procurement Council for the state. The new Council will be chaired by a former Head of Service of Delta State, Sir Okey Ofili.

‪Governor Okowa stated that the Council is an independent body with oversight functions over the State Public Procurement Commission and its establishment will help to achieve the state fiscal transparency, accountability and sustainability initiative of the World Bank‬.

According to a statement on Monday,:” It is the responsibility of the Council to ensure that all extant laws — such as sign-off limits and other standardised regulations — are complied with by the Public Procurement Commission,” Governor Okowa said at the inauguration.

Similarly, Okowa also swore in five new permanent secretaries in the state’s public service and charged them to lead by example by upholding accountability and fairness in the discharge of their duties.

‪During the swearing-in ceremony in Asaba, Governor Okowa also urged the five new permanent secretaries to see their promotions as a call to serve the state in greater capacities.

“As veteran civil servants and accounting officers of your various ministries, you are expected to lead by example as your conduct and performance — or a lack thereof — will directly impact our state’s policies,” Governor Okowa said.
