COMTUA Suffers Setback As General  Secretary  Resigns

The Council of Maritime Truck Unions and Association (COMTUA) has suffered another major blow as Comrade Victor  Nnotum has officially resigned his membership as Secretary.

 

Nnotum who had served as General Secretary, dumped COMTUA on Monday ,even as he  made this known during the Memorandum of Understanding  MoU ceremony entered by the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) and Nigeria Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO).

 

Nnotum told the gathering on Wednesday in his goodwill message that: ”I resigned as the secretary general of COMTUA 72 hours ago.”

Our correspondent who sight the letter dated February 21st 2022, titled “RESIGNATION FROM COMTUA” reads thus After careful consideration of my commitments, time and aspirations, I have come to the conclusion that it is high time to step down as the General Secretary of COMTUA and as a member.

 

“I was opportuned to be among those that formed COMTUA about four years

ago with the singular reason of having a strong united voice for the Maritime

Trucking Associations and Unions with a view of having ease of doing business.

 

To God be the glory that we achieved some level of success.

“My resignation wil be effective from 22” of February, 2022 and I shall by that date return all COMTUA properties in my possession.

 

“I sincerely wish COMTUA all the best in all its activities as I still remain friend to all the members.

 

“I thank God and I appreciate COMTUA for the opportunity to serve as the general Secretary to this day.”

Meanwhile, unverified reports also revealed that the trucker might be considered a membership switch to NARTO.

COMTUA has suffered numerous setback since the formation  two year. First was the withdrawal of membership by MWUN; closely followed by NARTO late last year.

MWUN President General, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju said the union had to pull out of the marriage due lack of sincerity of purpose among the various group.

Similarly, NARTO also dumped COMTUA due to lack of transparency among the various haulage operators coming together to protect truckers welfare and transport interest.
