College Of Health Technology Admits Over 750 New Students For 2022/2023 Academic Session

Lagos State Government has urged the over 750 newly admitted students of Lagos State College of Health Technology (LASCOHET), Yaba, to be law-abiding and focused in their academic pursuit

 

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab gave the advice at the 23rd Matriculation Ceremony organised by the College for students admitted into full-time programmes for the Y2022/2023 academic session held recently at the College premises in Yaba, Lagos.

 

Wahab, who was represented by Director, Inspection and Monitoring Office, Mrs. Yemisi Omoloye, felicitated with the students for the privilege and the opportunity to be admitted into the College known for its quality education and top-notch services.

 

He said: “It is a great opportunity for every one of you to be students of this great college where you will be drilled and fortified with everything you need to become professionals in different areas of Health Care delivery”.

 

The Special Adviser assured the students of the Government’s readiness to increase the profile of the school through the provision of more learning facilities, as well as other amenities that would make the College remain the best in the country.

 

Wahab, however, reiterated the need for the newly admitted students to remain focused, diligent, law-abiding and mindful of the purpose of being in the school as they work assiduously to achieve their set goals.

 

Earlier, the Provost of the College, Dr. Moyo Kasim, acknowledged and appreciated the tremendous support of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu through various infrastructural and human capacity investments that have put the College in an enviable position.

 

He highlighted several achievements of the College since its inception, part of which includes producing several Healthcare Professionals thereby contributing to the Government’s Health and Environment pillar of the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda, stressing that the College had proven its worth as a foremost Health Institution in the Country.

 

Kasim said the College has also been upgraded to keep up its excellent service delivery, adding that the educational standard of the school is above what is obtainable in other Colleges of Health across the country.

 

The Provost, however, appealed to the State Government, through the representative of the Special Adviser, for the relocation of the College to a bigger and permanent site, pointing out that space constraints remain a major issue that the College is currently grappling with due to increase in the number of its students.

 

Also speaking, the Students’ Union President of LASCOHET, Mr. Bakare Abdulazeem Olamilekan, advised his colleagues on ways to become more successful by harnessing the resources in the College to build up their academic careers.

 

He, therefore, advised them to give their academic pursuit a top priority by paying attention during lectures and abiding by the College’s rules and regulations.

 

Meanwhile,the Provost, Lagos State College of Nursing (LASCON), Igando, Mrs. Oyefunsho Oyenuga has called on the newly Capped and Strapped Student Midwives to continually strive to live on the ground of academic and moral pursuit, adding that the institution is built to train and mould graduates that are competent based on best global practices.

 

Orenuga, who made the remark recently during the Capping and Strapping ceremony organised by the College for the set of Y2022 Student Midwives, acknowledged the students’ efforts to have scaled through the rigorous six months of theoretical and clinical experiences.

 

While encouraging them to remain focused, she explained that the event is not the handing down of the symbols of professionalism but a strengthening commitment to serve with honour and dignity by continual learning and practising with the goal of achieving excellence in the profession.

 

The Provost disclosed that the Y2022 Set would be the last set to be capped and strapped at the College, adding that this is due to the commencement of its Ordinary National Diploma (OND) programme while awaiting the accreditation team from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for the commencement of Higher National Diploma (HND) programme.

 

She stated that the State Government has shown its commitment by supporting and investing in human capital development at the College, this is in addition to providing automatic employment for Students Nurses after completion of their programmes.

 

The Guest Speaker and Head, Department of Midwifery, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Dr. (Mrs.) Betty Omo-Ojo, speaking on the theme: “Climate Change and Human Health: The Midwives Perspective”, emphasised that it is the responsibility of Midwives to show support and prevent Maternal and Infant Mortality by doing everything to ensure the safety of mother and child

 

On his part, the Chairman National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, Lagos State Chapter, Mr. Julius Awojide, who was represented by the State Secretary, Mr. Toba Odumosun, called on the government to expedite action and assist in fast-tracking the construction of the new hostel accommodation for students in the College and the accreditation for the commencement of its HND programme.

 

He also implored the State Government and relevant stakeholders to consider granting scholarships to encourage those interested in the profession but who cannot afford to enrol due to their financial status.
