CAPACITY BUILDING: NPA SSASCGOC To Hold 3-Day Programme For Members In Kwara State

Apparently determined to boost manpower development for personnel in order to enhance port efficiency, the Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government Owned Companies (SSASCOG), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Branch is set to hold a 3-day training programme for members.

 

The capacity building programme put together by the union is expected to hold between 29-31 March 2021 in Ilorin, Kwara state.

 

Participants are drawn from members of the NPA Senior Staff Union across all seaports in Nigeria to include Lagos, Onne, Port Harcourt, Calabar, and Warri.

 

President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) affiliated body, Comrade Abubakar Abdullahi  in a chat with some selected journalists in Ilorin, said on Sunday that one of the major reasons behind the training programme for members was to look at the current trend in port operations.

 

Abubakar stated that members of the union need to understand the working relationship between management the Authority especially in welfare negotiations for members.

 

According to him, over 75 members of the union will participate in the capacity building programme for three days adding that critical  topics that would have tremendous impact in boosting port operations would be discussed.

 

He noted that the training programme would come in batches saying that the maiden edition would involve top executives from the respective zones of the union.

 

The union’s President reiterated that the next phase of the training would include other non- executive members from all zones, promising that the training programme would get to the least members of the union.

 

He said: “We want our members to have prior knowledge on how NPA operates at the seaports and for them to know the efforts put in place by management of the NPA to sustain the activities surrounding efficiency,”Abubakar stated.

 

Part of the training, he said would x-ray and assess members’ productivity at their respective work places and to further facilitate workers, employers working relationship.

 

He commended management of the NPA for the support and conducive working relationship for members adding that training is continuous to enhance workers Productivity

 

Earlier, the General Secretary of the NPA Senior Staff Association, Akinola Bodunde harped on the significance of the training,  saying it would educate members more on operational procedures of the lead maritime agency.

 

According to him, capacity building is vital in keeping members abreast of technological and other changes taking place across the globe in work places.

 

He maintained that the training is first of its kind since the inception of the association especially with the number of persons involved in a singular training for members.
