BREAKING: FG Grants Waivers On EV, Bus Import Duties In Inflation Relief Drive

The federal government through the Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, on Monday announced the FG’s import duty waivers on Electric vehicles EVs and mass transit buses via an X post.

This statement detailed the policy reductions to ease inflation and boost affordability.

According to the post @DOlusegun on X stated that “President Tinubu’s administration has approved a massive reduction in import duties of selected products in order to further reduce inflation, empower local businesses and increase affordability for consumers.”

Specifically, EV duties dropped from 5% to 0%, with full exemptions for mass transit buses and manufacturing machinery.

The post highlighted a 90-day transition phase from April 1, 2026, amid Middle East fuel price pressures.

It also covered broader tariff cuts, like passenger vehicles from 70% to 40%, to support consumers and industries.

Recall that the federal government over the weekend announced reduction on import duties on fairly used vehicles, palm oil and other items in furtherance to cushion the effects on the common man..
