BOAT MISHAP: NIMASA DG Canvasses Joint Regulatory Enforcement

The Director General of the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA),Dr. Bashir Jamoh has expressed worries over the incessant boat mishaps in the country, stressing the need for joint safety standard and enforcement by concern regulatory agencies.
Jamoh in a tweet on Saturday , said moves have began to actualise process of joint operations between federal and state government agencies.
He maintained that the joint operations should encompass both public and private sector players.
The DG in his tweet said: “The recent Apapa boat mishap is one too many. My condolences to families/loved ones of those who died.
“We need a Joint Safety Standards & Enforcement regime for our waters.
“No more delays. I have begun reaching out to state & non-state actors for actualizing this #Livesareatstake .
Recall that in the last one  month , multiple cases of boat mishaps within the inland waterways whereby   over fifty lives have been lost.
