Benue, Rivers Collaborate To Produce Rice, Other Crops

Benue and Rivers State Governments have commenced discussions for the two states to collaborate in the area of agricultural and food value chain production.

 

Governor Samuel Ortom disclosed this today after receiving the report of the Prof Dennis Ityavyar delegation he sent to Rivers State.

 

The Governor restated the resolve of his administration to explore the cordial relationship between Benue and Rivers that had existed in time past for the benefit of the present and future generations.

Governor Ortom commended the delegation for being good ambassadors of the state, adding that the collaboration was capable of encouraging development in the two states.

Commissioner for Education, Professor Dennis Ityavyar who led the state delegation to Rivers State to explore the possibility in that area while presenting the report to the governor at the Benue Peoples House Makurdi commended the Governor for the initiative to rebuild relationship among the minority tribes in the country.

He noted that a meeting between a delegation from Benue and Rivers held in Port Harcourt, resolved to collaborate for food production starting with Benue – Rivers Rice.

 

According to the Commissioner, the collaboration would not be limited to rice production alone but include other private investment opportunities in the agricultural and food value chain.

Exchange of meetings and development of a memorandum of understanding, MOU is expected from the committee for the implementation of the collaboration.

 

Meanwhile, Governor Ortom who is Visitor to the Benue State University has approved the appointment of His Royal Majesty, King Barrister Disrael Gbobo Bob-Manuel II, Owukori IX, Amanyanabo of Abonnema as Chancellor of the institution.

 

Similarly, Professor Ityavyar led the Pro-Chancellor of the Benue State University, Professor Zakarys Gundu, Vice Chancellor Professor Tor Joe Iorapuu and others to present appointment letter to the new chancellor in Rivers State.
