ABUJA — NNPC Limited has recorded sustained improvement in national crude oil production under its current leadership, while reiterating that responsibility for oil licensing and block allocations rests solely with the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
This was contained in a statement issued by Andy Odeh, Chief Corporate Communications Officer, NNPC Limited on Saturday 8 August 2026, noting that average crude oil production (including condensate) rose from 1.60 million barrels per day (mbpd) in April 2025 to 1.67 mbpd by April 2026, an increase of about 80,000 barrels per day (6%).
These figures are published in NNPC Limited’s Monthly Performance Report.
The recently concluded licensing round is a statutory function of the NUPRC under the Petroleum Industry Act 2021. NNPC Limited operates as a commercial entity and does not possess regulatory or allocation authority.
Gas output grew from 7,354 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) in April 2025 to 7,729 mmscfd in April 2026, roughly a 5% increase, supporting domestic energy security and export commitments.
NNPC Limited further noted that it welcomes scrutiny and remains committed to transparency. The Company urges analysts and professional bodies to verify claims through official regulatory and corporate channels and reserves the right to protect its reputation against false or unsubstantiated publications.
