Tinubu’s Six-Month Extension For Customs Chief “Progressive,” Says All Round Cargo MD

Managing Director and CEO, All Round Cargo Company Limited ,  Alhaji Lawal Hammed has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s six-month extension for Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, as a “progressive” move that will advance international trade and enhance professionalism of personnel.

Hammed made the comments in Lagos on Monday during a conversation with DAILYFOCUS NIGERIA.

Hammed, a freight agent and shipper, said retaining the Customs boss will consolidate ongoing reforms and ensure continuity in policy measures that have eased cargo clearance.

According to him, “The six months is enough for the new set of officers incoming to lead the service. Adewale Adeniyi has performed — things have changed under his watch.

“There has been massive improvement in revenue collection and automation,” Hammed said.

He added that the extension will allow a smooth transition and prepare the next crop of professional officers to take over.

Speaking further , Hammed also lauded President Tinubu’s broader port-sector reforms, including the creation of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, saying the move signals the administration’s commitment to boosting international trade.

However, he urged government agencies to tackle persistent bottlenecks in cargo exportation. “Most of the problems associated with exports are man-made,” Hammed said,

He further called on stakeholders to prioritize national interest and address corruption that continues to hinder export growth.
