FAAN Pushes Deeper Ties With Air Force , Army For Ironclad Airport Security Support

The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, has called for stronger collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force to bolster airside security at the nation’s airports, while also pledging support for the Nigerian Army’s air transport and welfare operations.

On Tuesday, Mrs. Kuku received the Commander of the National Air Defence Corps, Air Vice Marshal Japhet Ekwuribe, during a courtesy visit in Lagos aimed at enhancing joint efforts. She stressed the need for shared intelligence, coordinated patrols, better communication on flight operations, and vigilance against land encroachment to tackle evolving security threats.

“Addressing these challenges requires strong partnerships and proactive monitoring of airport perimeters,” Mrs. Kuku said, reaffirming FAAN’s commitment to safeguarding aviation infrastructure.

Air Vice Marshal Ekwuribe praised FAAN’s proactive stance and highlighted how closer ties would boost surveillance, response times, and operational efficiency across Nigeria’s airports.

In a separate meeting that same day, Mrs. Kuku hosted senior officers from the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport, led by Corps Commander Major General Nansak Danjuma Shagaya. The Army seeks FAAN’s help to revive the Nigerian Army Air Freight Company and facilitate welfare flights for personnel, including dedicated holding areas for connecting flights.

Mrs. Kuku welcomed the proposals, assuring full support to ensure seamless, secure operations that enhance military welfare and align with FAAN’s passenger-friendly mandate.

These engagements underscore FAAN’s growing role in fostering inter-agency ties to protect airports, improve logistics, and support national security.
