AT 19 YEARS ANNIVERSARY: Micura Boss Commends Vicky Haastrup’s Pivotal Role In Maritime Breakthroughs

Chief Michael Orobosa Ubogu, Managing Director and CEO of Micura Services Limited, celebrated the company’s 19th anniversary by highlighting its enduring success in Nigeria’s maritime industry, showering praise on Princess Vicky Haastrup, Executive Vice Chairman of ENL Consortium Limited, for providing his first major breakthrough.
In a heartfelt address, Ubogu credited Haastrup for showcasing his talents in the stevedoring business, stating, “My first appreciation will go to Princess Vicky Haastrup for believing me. she was the person who helped me with my first breakthrough in this industry and she also helped to showcase my talent in the stevedoring business through making waves.”
He described her influence as foundational, enabling Micura to “put our foot down” and thrive for nearly two decades.
“This milestone reaffirms how visionary support from leaders like Haastrup, combined with strategic port concessions, continues to bless and elevate Nigeria’s maritime sector”,he affirmed.
Ubogu also commended the immediate past President General, Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria MWUN, Prince Adewale Adeyanju as a steadfast partner and mentor, over the years.
The stevedoring expert also Comrade Francis Bunu Abi and his team for strengthening the Micura brand through accountability.
“If for 19 years we have not faded away then we are doing something unique and something that is right,” he said, attributing the company’s resilience to divine guidance and strong leadership.
According to him, port concession has become a lasting nlessing for maritime growth
Ubogu hailed port concessions as the “best option for international trade,” positioning them as a cornerstone of the industry’s prosperity.
Under this framework, he stressed that Micura has expanded from stevedoring to outsourcing in manufacturing, overcoming hurdles like securing a ₦5,000,000 NIMASA bond and migrating licenses.
The company, he noted now boasts ISO 9001:2015 certification—the first for any stevedoring firm in Nigeria—along with all required government approvals.
Ubogu disclosed further that It currently manages over 4,000 direct and indirect employees across terminals, with some sites employing up to 600 workers.
“Leadership is not in a vacuum,” Ubogu emphasized, pledging to entrust it to deserving hands.
The anniversary event at Illashe Beach, selected by staff for its strong tourism potential, underscored Micura’s forward momentum.
Looking to the 20th anniversary in 2027, Ubogu teased , saying”something much bigger,” promising stakeholders will be proud of the brand”s existence over close to two decades.
