FG Announces Burial Arrangements For Late PMB, As FEC Meeting To Hold On Friday

The Federal Government has officially unveiled the burial plans for former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, following consultations on a dignified national send-off.

In a press briefing held on Monday, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced the establishment of an Inter-Ministerial Committee, chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, CON.

Idris said the committee includes key federal ministers and security chiefs and will collaborate closely with the Katsina State Government and the Buhari family to oversee all burial activities.

Twenty-five members of the Federal Executive Council have been directed to proceed to Katsina to participate in the burial rites and remain for Third-Day Prayers in Daura scheduled for Wednesday, July 16.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, also has declared a seven-day national mourning period starting Sunday, July 13, during which the national flag will fly at half-mast nationwide. The President also declared Tuesday, July 15, a public holiday. The scheduled Federal Executive Council meeting for July 15 has been postponed to July 18.

A high-level delegation, led by Vice-President Senator Kashim Shettima, is currently finalizing arrangements in London for the repatriation of the late President’s remains, expected to arrive in Katsina by noon on Tuesday. Upon arrival, a military ceremony will be held, and President Tinubu will receive the remains personally. Funeral prayers and interment will take place in Daura.

Condolence registers have been opened across federal offices and Nigerian missions worldwide to allow Nigerians and the global community to pay their respects. President Tinubu continues to receive condolences from world leaders, underscoring the late leader’s international stature.

The Federal Government called on all Nigerians to join in prayer and reflection during this solemn national moment.
