Maritime Police , Customs Strengthen Collaboration To Combat Waterways Crime

In a significant step towards enhancing maritime security, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Maritime, Musa Yusuf Garba, on Monday , hosted Comptroller Patrick N. Ntadi, the new Customs Area Controller of the Western Marine Command, at the Force Headquarters Annex, Kam Salem House, Obalende, Lagos.

The courtesy visit aimed to deepen collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force Maritime Command and the Nigeria Customs Service.

According to a statement by ASP Adebayo Rasheed, Police Public Relations Officer, Maritime Police Command, Lagos on May 26, 2025, both agencies reaffirmed their commitment towards working together to tackle maritime crimes including drug trafficking, arms smuggling, and other transnational threats along Nigeria’s inland waterways.

Comptroller Ntadi highlighted the importance of inter-agency cooperation and intelligence sharing as critical to securing the maritime domain and protecting Nigeria’s economic interests. He pledged his command’s continued support for joint efforts to combat illicit activities at sea.

AIG Musa Yusuf Garba who welcomed the initiative, emphasized the need for intensified joint operations and intelligence-driven patrols.

He stressed that open communication and coordinated enforcement are essential to safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime frontiers and enhancing national revenue security.

“This renewed partnership marks a strategic move to build a unified and resilient maritime security framework, ensuring a safer and more secure environment for Nigeria’s waterways,”the statement added.
