BREAKING: FG Set To Refloat National Shipping Lines, Partner UNIDO, Danish Govt

Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola on Tuesday, disclosed that Nigerian government will soon revamp National Shipping Lines that will be championed by private sector.

The Minister stated this while receiving delegation from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) led by the organisation’s Representative to ECOWAS and Regional Director, Nigeria Regional Office Hub, Ambassador Jean Bakole.

Oyetola said his Ministry will partner UNIDO to develop the industry policy that will help in achieving sustainable growth in the sector.

He specifically mentioned that Nigeria would require support in the area of ship building, ship repair, and fishing trollers, among others.

UNIDO representative expressed its readiness to support the Minister in the implementation of the programmes and projects of the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.

 

Bakole also spoke on the Program for Country Partnership, PCP.

He stated that Nigeria is not participating with other maritime nations due to dearth of ship ownership by Nigerians.

Meanwhile, as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between his country and Nigeria, the Ambassador of Denmark to Nigeria, H.E Sune Krogstrup, in company of other top officials of the Danish government, on Tuesday, paid a follow-up visit to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.

It would be recalled that on October 6, 2023, the Ambassador met  with the Minister to explore areas of partnership and how to leverage the immense opportunities within the maritime sector between the two nations.

The ambassador explained that the follow-up visit was informed by the strong desire of the Danish government to strengthen bilateral ties with Nigeria and establish partnerships that will promote the maritime sectors of the two countries.

In his reaction, Oyetola said his ministry welcomes partnership with the Danish government and looks forward to the prospects of the collaboration.
