LAGOS: Ifelodun LCDA Gets Two New Secondary Schools

The Ajegunle Community of Ifelodun Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has gotten two additional new secondary schools, Layeni Junior Secondary School, Itire Ojo Road, Ajegunle and Alaba Oro Comprehensive Secondary School.

 

The Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, speaking at a Stakeholders’ Engagement on Education Matters’ held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Hall, Layeni Area Office of Ifelodun LCDA, said the completion of the two new schools will help the State Government to increase access to quality education in Ajeromi Ifelodun community.

 

Adefisayo added that the two schools, which will start with 100 students drawn from existing schools like Gaskiya and Tolu in the area, is in fulfilment of the promises made by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu when he visited the area recently, noting that education is one of the major pillars of his administration T.H.E.M.E.S agenda”.

 

She said, “I am honoured to inform you that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has delivered on his promise and both secondary schools have been completed and schooling activities will resume in January 2023 with an initial 100 students pooled from existing schools within the local education area”.

 

Also speaking, the Lagos State House of Assembly member representing Ajeromi Ifelodun I, Hon. Lukman Olumoh commended Governor Sanwo-Olu and the Commissioner for Education on the development in the education sector and the community towards ensuring a better future for the children.

 

“We requested for additional secondary schools and today we have the Layeni Junior High School and Alaba-Oro Comprehensive Senior School. Apart from these, the Governor recently gave us a new Fire Station and rehabilitated the Ojo road, Mba Cardoso and other access roads in the area”.

 

In his remarks, the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District V, Mr. Olajide Charles stated that the engagement is aimed at facilitating more educational dividends from the State, informing residents that work is ongoing to deploy more teachers to the new schools.

 

During the interactive session, concerns bothering on matters such as issues of security around schools, appeal for additional schools and calls for recreation facilities for pupils and students were expressed. Other issues raised include enforcement to stop hawking by children of school age during school hours and the provision of visible road signage for safety purposes.

 

Lagos State Government officials took turns to provide answers and assured that the Sanwo-Olu administration will invest more in education and more teachers are being recruited as needed when older ones retire.

 

The Commissioner later led other officials on an inspection visit to the two new schools to assess their readiness for the take-off of school activities in January 2023.

 

Stakeholders present at the meeting include Mr. Abayomi Abolaji, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, traditional rulers, political leaders, community representatives and youths organisations among others.
