Lagos State Government’s greenery project has once again received a boost following the State Parks and Gardens Agency’s (LASPARK) collaboration with AXA Mansard Insurance to plant 100 Queen Palm trees across the State.
Speaking during a ceremonial tree planting event held on Thursday at the perimeter fence of Eko Atlantic, Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos, the General Manager of LASPARK, Mrs. Adetoun Popoola, expressed appreciation to AXA Mansard Insurance for choosing to support the State Government’s greening initiative, through its AXA Root Movement, as part of a larger sustainability agenda.
She admonished individuals, public and private organisations, as well as Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), to join hands with LASPARK in promoting a sustainable and healthy State through tree planting.
Speaking further, Popoola projected that the city of Lagos, in the next couple of years, will be overpopulated and when this happens, the environment will lose its essential natural assets, stressing the need to plant as many trees as possible for restoration of the earth.
Also speaking, Chief Customer and Marketing Officer of AXA Mansard Insurance, Mrs. Jumoke Odunlami, stated that climate change is a major issue in the country, reiterating that Nigeria’s commitment to being carbon neutral by Y2060 makes tree planting the best way to offset carbon emission in the surroundings.
She also disclosed that the second phase of the AXA Root Movement is scheduled to commence soon and everyone will be encouraged to plant a tree, noting that the AXA Mansard Team is committed to propagating tree planting agenda in Lagos State.
