DRUG ABUSE: Group Tasks  NDLEA To Embark On Aggressive Sensitisation Of Nigerians , Commends  Marwa 

A Non Governmental Organization (NGO) under the aegis of Anti Drug Abuse Club has advocated for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to embark on aggressive sensitisation campaign of the citizens against the dangers inherent in illicit drug usage and trafficking in the country.

 

The group lamented that much has not been achieved in the area of awareness by NDLEA saying, that sensitisation of the Nigerians by the agency will further reduce drug abuse, addiction and trafficking especially the youths.

The Anti  Drug  Abuse Group is a  non- governmental, political and altruistic platform established to effectively work as a social bridge drawing attention to share insightful information and efforts to relevant agencies on drug abuse in the country in order to enhance prompt resolution and provide strategic solutions.

The platform was established on 13th February 2022, at the vanguard of encouraging both youths and adults to shun abuse of drugs and addiction to drugs which is in sync with the sustainable development goals of the Chairman of NDLEA Gen. Buba Marwa.

The Convener of the NGO, Comrade Ibrahim Olayiwola, in a statement made available to DAILY FOCUS NIGERIA, pointed out that the group is focusing on the best way to draw the drug law agency to the grassroots in curbing the menace of drug abuse.

Olayiwola called on the drug law enforcement agency to look inward in tackling drugs related vices from the local communities up to the elite noting that seizure of hard drugs from the international frontiers is a miniature aspect of reducing drug abuse and t.rafficking

 

According to him, management of NDLEA should engage pupils and students from secondary and primary on the menace of drug abuse and trafficking noting that owners of hotels also have significant roles to play in discouraging drug related vices.

Olayiwola said “As part of the efforts made to enlighten and educate one another on other factors that constitute drug abuse , the Anti Drug Abuse club, have set aside ways of providing periodic virtual lectures to schools, and training on drug addictions, drug abuse and related subjects, thus the need for the Marwa led team to key in furtherance to eradicate drug related vices.

 

“This is imperatively needed due to the high records of drug abuse and drug addiction in Nigeria and other country are mostly youths. ”

 

Conclusively , he stressed the need for the federal government agencies such as the NDLEA and others to partners with NGOs adding that ” The collaboration most importantly will help curbs the menace of drug abuse and drug addictions by “catching them young”  , by visiting both primary and secondary schools, inviting hotel owners in order not to allow lodgers who imbibe in drugs and selling of drugs in their terrain, create awareness to educate them morally, hosting town hall meetings, sensitizational programmes, print flyers, to educate the populace on the danger of drug abuse and drug addictions.

Ibrahim enjoined all members of the public to provide useful information to the drug agencies NDLEA on any environment where such black spot of drugs are spotted and not to harbour them.

 

 

 

He also commended the Marwa led team on the work done carried out so far on the arrest of suspended DCP Abba Kyari who was allegedly involve in drug trafficking and another arrest of the seven members of Airport drug syndicate.

The Convener also commended the Federal Government for providing Lie Detector and a Night vision google for NDLEA as a technological tools to enhance their operations.
