Oyo Family Court To Handle Children, Family Related Matters

The Chief Judge of Oyo state, Justice Muntar Abimbola on Monday disclosed that the newly created Family court in the state is to handle issues affecting Children and family in general.

Justice Abimbola made this known while inaugurating the Judges and officers of the Family court in Ibadan.

According to the Chief Judge, with the take off of the Family Court and the inaguration of the members of the Family court, the people of Oyo state can approach the court on issues affecting children and family in general.

The Chief Judge of Oyo state stressed that the Family court “is not restricted to only lawyers,” as NGOs, civil society Organisations, parents and concerned persons can approach the court on issues that bothers on the family.

Justice Abimbola emphasized that children are entitled to the fundamental human rights and that their rights must be protected in everyway by all and sundry.

While charging that all hands must be on deck to ensure that the provision of court is justified, the Chief judge noted that laws can only be made efficient when the law made by the legislative is interpreted by the spirit of functionality.

Speaking on the functionality of the Family court and how all the High court in the state would also handle family issues, Justice Abimbola urged all the officers of the court to work hard to bring justice at all times.

The Chief Judge hinted that a monitoring team will be set up to check the level of enforcement and ensure that compliance of the child’s Right Law will be provided for by the court.

Justice Adenike Adeeyo while speaking on behalf of the Family court judges and officers assured that the court will deliver on its mandate and ensure there is accelerated hearing on any case brought before the court.

Justice Adeeyo urged everyone to endeavour to approach the court when the need arises.
