The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) on Monday, made payment of N151,000 for six patients who could not settle their hospital bills after discharge from the Apapa General Hospital in Lagos.
Recall that the association has reiterated it commitment assist the needy at the General Hospital at a press briefing .
The association made the gesture as part of programmes lined up for the commemoration of its 20th Anniversary which will climax at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Amuwo-Odofin.
The beneficiaries of the kind gesture include Enebor Mary, Aremu Kehinde, Onoja Jonathan, Anani Rebecca, Babatunde Wale, Olitu Okon and Musa Naomi. One of the patients, a male, had a referral to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) for which the gesture would constitute part of his deposits at the tertiary medical centre.
Speaking at the visitation Dr. Victor Ayedun, a consultant, who conducted the NAGAFF delegation round the various wards to meet the affected patients, explained the plight of the patient billed for LUTH.
While expressing the mission of the association to the hospital to the management, Dr. Eugene Nweke, a former President of the freight forwarding association, said it was a gesture being extended to the beneficiaries by NAGAFF its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) annually to mark its anniversary.
He added that before now the focus was on other sectors of human endeavours but added that this year it was shifted to health.
Nweke prayed God to assist the beneficiaries and other patients to overcome their travail and assured that the gesture from now on, if not made a half-yearly affair could be an annual ritual.
Receiving the cash on behalf of the management of the Apapa General Hospital, Dr. Ismail Onukoyi, thanked the delegation for its show of love to the indigent patients and the hospital.
He said he was not surprised at what the association had done because of its household identity in Apapa as an organization associated with good deeds.
NAGAFF had last Saturday embarked on the cleanup of sections of Apapa community as part of its CSR as it marked its anniversary.
