Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has played down the pro- and anti-Comrade Adams Oshiomhole sentiments raging within the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the agitations for and against the APC National Chairman of the party, are normal in a multiparty democracy.

He said the issue though aggravated with the recent confrontation between the opposing groups, is not such a serious one to engage the attention of the National Executive Committee of the party.

The governor while noting the risk involved in leading a national party however maintained that political leaders must be ready to accommodate various views and tendencies provided such views do not constitute anti-party activities.

“You have to understand that leading a national party is a risky exercise; you will have your supporters, and you will have your adversaries.

“This is normal. But what is important is that in a political party there must be an expression of various views, there must be accommodation of tendencies but what must never be allowed is engaging in anti-party activities.

“We didn’t even discuss those issues because they are not yet serious issues that should engage the attention of NEC,” he said.

Fielding questions from reporters on the outcome of the NEC meeting, the Governor said the meeting discussed the audited account and budget of the party and referred them to the appropriate committee.

He confirmed the decision of NEC to set up a national reconciliation committee to help resolve divisive issues within the party.
