Wike Threatens To Step On Toes Over Abuja Masterplan, Set To Demolish Illegal Structures

Barely hours after the cabinet inauguration on Monday, Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike has vowed to step on toes for the fulfilment of Abuja Masterplan.

Wike in his maiden press conference in Abuja, threatened to demolish illegal structures noting that irrespective on the political position past or present, he will bring down any building that is not in conformity with the masterplan of the FCT.

According to him, Abuja is very dirty hence, the need to bring back sanity in the seat of power.

He said “Be you ambassador, be you governor or honourable, once the house is not in conformity with the  Abuja Masterplan it must come down because I don’t want to fail the President.

The former Rivers State Governor also promised to revamp the transportation system and focus on key projects that would be beneficial to the common man.

Wike reiterated that the no project will be left undone in the FCT as far as he remains the Minister noting that all projects will be closely monitored by himself.

He said the project would be executed in a short possible period under his administration adding that “We cannot continue like this.”

About close monitoring on the projects, he stressed that “I will move from my house to monitor this project from that project before coming to the office,” he vowed.

Continuing, he said “I am not afraid of anybody, we must do our work. Any building without C of O, is in for demolition.

“Those that government has given land to develop and have not, have list ownership of such lands.

“How can government give you a land to develop and you become a land speculator waiting for the land to increase in value.

“Those who have uncompleted buildings in Abuja and have been taken over by criminals will lose the building.

“We will consult with stakeholders and talk with the herdsmen to see how we will stop cows coming into the city. The grasses are outside the city.

“If foreigners come and see such, they will say what kind of country is Nigeria.

“Motorcycles cannot take over the city and Tricycles a we are going to provide alternatives to ease suffering of the people.

“There is no abandoning projects, I will rather do one and complete it than abandoning projects.

 

“I will encourage the indigenes in this place. We must extend development to the hinterlands.”
