The President General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) Comrade Adewale Adeyanju has disclosed his reasons for contesting the number two position of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) ,saying that the whole idea is to prioritize workers welfare of all affiliate members and to bring the shipping industry closer to government because of the peculiarities to the nation’s economy.
Adeyanju who is contesting the post of Deputy President NLC, made this known on Tuesday in Lagos.
He also, reiterated that if elected in February, 2023 there will be positive turning around in labour activities noting that the NLC will be driven by modern day technologies like never before.
Adeyanju maintained that unionism has grown beyond analogue ways of operations noting that technology will play a major role in the next dispensation.
According to the MWUN boss, the existing relatively peace in the Congress deserved continuity and harmony, noting that the position which is open for contest is an avenue for him to bring his wealth of experience to the national level of the Congress having served the shipping Industry through positive reforms for workers welfare.
He stressed that ” The NLC election for me is just to add another feather on behalf of the MWUN. If elected into office in February, then it will tell a better story for the MWUN and indeed the industry we represent.
While describing the task as a new assignment, Adeyanju said “For me I see it as part of service to humanity because it bothers on the law of give and take. I want to also thank those who appreciated what the union is doing past and present for workers welfare and it shows that MWUN is strong and active like many other affiliates in NLC.
The President General also commended the incoming NLC President, Comrade Joseph Ajaero for his contributions of the existing peace and tranquility of the Congress, noting that understanding was key towards a sustainable goals oriented service delivery.
He also warned employers of labour in Nigeria to prioritize workers welfare adding that the new position if elected will not hesitate to take necessary actions in line with the NLC constitutions to ensure that workers are treated fairly with the condition of service as stipulated.
Comrade Adewale Adeyanju and two others , namely- Audu Titus Amba and Jabiru Ado Sani were nominated for the Deputy National President NLC position ahead of the 13th Delegates Conference scheduled for 7 and 8 February 2023 in Abuja.
