WHARF RAT VIRAL VIDEO UPDATE: NPA Fingers Port Of Maputo , Says Container Last Seen In 2017

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) on Monday, attributed the port viral video of tyres pilfering by wharf rats to port of Maputo in Mozambique , saying it unconnected to Lagos seaports as speculated on the social media.

 

According to a statement made available to DAILYFOCUS NEWS ONLINE , exclusively by the General Manager, Corporate and Strategy Communication of the NPA  , Engineer Adam  Jatto ,the identified container number was last seen in Nigeria  in the year 2017.

 

The spokesman said the shipping line ; CMA CGM reacted to video and was able to assist the NPA in tracking  down the movement and current location of the container .

 

He noted that container was also stacked at bonded terminal 2017 and not at the seaport as captioned in the video.

 

Jatto ,in support to the dockworkers branch of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria position of the video, stated that the off dock terminal does not handle RORO operations , pointng that the action of the viral video did not occur any Nigerian port.

 

The statement read thus “We have been able to verify based on the visible container in the video that the last port that the container was received was in Maputo, Mozambique.

 

” Upon further enquiry from the shipping coy, records showed that the last time the identified container number came to Nigeria was in 2017 and was stacked at one of the bonded  terminal which does not handle RoRo operations.

 

“The container with details CMA CGM numbered: 828580-9 seen in the video was  sent to CMA CGM (a major shipping company) office and they assisted in tracking the movement and present location.

 

“This incidence did not happen in any of Nigeria seaports.”
