Western Port Police Commissioner Assures Stakeholders Of Effective Security At Seaports

The Western Port Authority  Police Commissioner, Mr Jonathan Towuru has assured stakeholders from the two seaports in Lagos State, that personnel of the force will ensure 24hours policing like never before in protection of lives and properties .

 

Towuru gave the assurance on Tuesday during a working visit by the Nigeria Customs Service Area Controller, Tin Can Island Port Command, Comptroller,Kunle Oloyede and his management team to the  Port Command, Lagos Ports Complex (LPC) Apapa.

 

The Commissioner further reiterated that the police and customs have critical roles to play to promote trade facilitation and protection of national  security against unscrupulous elements.

 

Towuru called on the Service officials to work closely with the force in the area of information sharing, intelligence gathering and security, pointing out that inter- agency was necessary in line with the ease of doing business in the maritime space.

 

He told his guests that he assumed duty  on the 7th December 2021 at the Western Port Command adding that the first major assignment was to refurbished his immediate environment .

 

“In Apapa port, stakeholders job  are defined while some are not but if we can capitalise on our synergy we will win the fight against any form of criminal elements within our ports.

 

 

“Security comes up before welfare, and who will promote the security? It is we the police officers. We will support customs in the ease of doing business in our ports and we just have to work together to achieve the mandates of the federal government”. Towuru expressed.

 

On his part, Customs Area Controller, Tin Can Island Port, Comptroller Oloyede commended the Commissioner of Police for the refurbishment of the command, saying “this place used to be dirty “.

 

Oloyode expressed satisfaction over the transformation of the port police command adding that the force and customs are brothers even outside the port environment.

 

He said the police has been supportive to customs operations at the ports, stressing that the courtesy visit will further strengthen  relationship between the two agencies of the government.
