In a pulsating 5-a-side football showdown on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, the newly revamped Wale Adeniyi Sports Arena (WASA) at Coconut Underbridge, Ibafon, Lagos, hosted its inaugural test run.
The star attraction: an electrifying clash between Team Maritime of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) and the Western Marine Command (WMC), Nigeria Customs Service; 5-a-side team, ending in a nail-biting 5-5 draw.
Nigeria Customs Service’s WMC Area Controller, Comptroller Patrick Ntadi, beamed with satisfaction after the match, praising both sides for their “wonderful display of skills and precision shots at goal.”
The synthetic pitch, part of Ntadi’s visionary transformation of the once-shady Coconut Underbridge—long notorious for smuggling, drug peddling, and crime—into a thriving sports hub, proved its mettle under the high-energy action.

Located directly in front of Coconut Jetty along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway in Apapa, Lagos, WASA features a dedicated 5-a-side football turf alongside a basketball court and spectator space.
Comptroller Ntadi, whose WMC headquarters is nearby, spearheaded the redesign to foster talent scouting, recreation, and community upliftment, turning a hotspot for vices into “The Millionaire Bridge” reborn as a modern leisure and sports facility.
This test run marks the start of WMC’s “Customs Care” CSR initiative, with official opening planned soon.
