WATERWAYS SAFETY: 48 Marshals Trained To Man Jetties Across Lagos State

The Lagos State Safety Commission, in collaboration with the Office of the Sustainable Development Goals and Lagos State Waterways Authority, has trained and deployed 48 COVID-19 volunteers as Safety Marshals to jetties across the State in furtherance of the government’s commitment to the safety of lives on waterways across the metropolis.

A statement issued at the weekend by the Director-General, Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, noted that the volunteer Safety Marshals provided by the Office of the Sustainable Development Goals are saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that the commuters wear their Personal Protective Equipment as well as providing safety briefings to commuters before embarking on their trips at various jetties across the State.

He stated that the Safety Marshals were trained on Safety Standards and Protocols to ensure that citizens seeking to commute through the waterways observe basic safety precautionary measures.

Mojola emphasised the importance of embracing safety measures as a collective responsibility, adding that everyone has to play their part in order to complement the efforts of the government in curbing the spread of the deadly Coronavirus pandemic in Lagos.

The Director-General, however, enjoined Bars, Restaurants, Spas, Hotels and other social centres to ensure they register their business on duly, warning that facilities opened without procuring the provisional safety compliance letter and operate above the stipulated 50 percent capacity at any point in time, as directed by the State Government, will be shut down.
