WATERWAYS  :Group Arrests 30 Boat Passengers Without Life Jackets During  Night Voyage From CMS Jetty

The Coastal Safety and Awareness initiative said on Tuesday that it arrested a total of 30  passengers aboard while sailing from the National Inland Waterways Authority NIWA  Jetty in CMS  to Bishop Koji Island Community,Amuwo Odofin local Government, Area, Lagos State at about 12:12 midnight .

 

The sailor group in a statement made available to DAILYFOCUS NIGERIA said the arrest was made on the 7th of December 2021.

 

According to them, none of the passengers were spotted with lifejackets while the boat was without any form of lightning.

The group also said it has handed both the passengers and the wooden boat to operatives of the Nigerian Navy, Ituagun Island Navy Camp for further investigation.

 

The coastal group maintained that the boat was supposedly meant for fifteen passengers against thirty.

 

John Paul Onyekwere  Coastal Safety Lagos in the message said “The Coastal Safety arrested a boat from CMS NIwA Jetty to Bishop Koji Island Community,Amuwo Odofin local Government, Area, Lagos State at 12:12 midnight on7th December, 2021.

 

Similarly, the statement said”: We have successfully handed them over to Nigerian Navy, Ituagun Island Navy Camp for operating at night.

” The boat was overloaded  with 30  passengers  as against 15 passengers.

“They were without life jackets and no light. ” the message read in bits.

 

“We have partinership with maritime workers union of Nigeria, Lagos State Emmergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Waterways Authority (L.S.W.A).Amuwo Odofin local Area , Coastal Safety is working in some of this jetties. In forcing the use of life jackets and other safety rules on voyage.

“Coastal Safety and Awareness initiative also have understanding with NIWA.

” Even you, you as a person you have the power to arrest any unlawful Acts and hand over to any law enforcement Agencies.
