UNICEF Declares 14 LGAs In Jigawa State Free From Open Defecation

United Nations Children Education Funds (UNICEF) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources have presented certificates to 14 local governments in Jigawa state for being certified as ‘  Open Defecation Free “.

 

Speaking at the ceremony for the presentation of the certificate, UNICEF Country Representative Mr. Rabil Sale expressed the happiness of the United Nations for the remarkable achievement in address the menace of Open defecation  in Jigawa state

 

He said, UNICEF in collaboration with the state government has been working on the area of water, sanitation, and hygiene since 2010 and the result is fantastic.

 

Mr. Rabil then called on the state government to allocate more funds for sustaining the success and ensure all  27 local governments of the state became  free Open Defecation

 

He also called on traditional leaders, civil societies, private organizations, and the general public to keep up their enlightenment campaign against open defection to ensure a clean society.

 

“Hygiene and Sanitation are very critical in addressing many diseases that are contributing to the high rate of child death and all hands must be on deck to ensure the survival of our children” Mr. Rabil declared.

 

In his remarks, The federal Minister of Water Resources Engineer Sulaiman Adamu describes the presentation of the certificate as a milestone toward achieving targeted goals of making Nigeria a Free Open Defecation society by 2025.

 

He said the Federal government will continue to invest heavily to make the provision of water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities accessible and affordable to all Nigerians.

 

In his speech The Executive Governor of Jigawa Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar said, clean water is one of the necessities needed by the common man daily, and providing such necessities remains one of the Paramount priorities of his government.

 

“We thanks Almighty God as UNICEF is presenting a certificate of Open Defecation Free” to 14 local governments with an estimate of three million population, we are equally happy for achieving 92% provision of clean water to our people,”

 

The governor then promised to continue collaborating with the Federal government, UNICEF, other partners, and the general public to make Jigawa a clean and happiest society for all.
