In what can be described as waste resources and mismanagement of funds, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) standard creche is begging for urgent attention at the Lagos Ports Complex (LPC) Apapa.
The facility DAILY FOCUS NIGERIA gathered has been under lock and key for about 19 months.
The creche was commissioned in 2019 by the former Managing Director of the NPA,Hadiza Bala Usman.
Our correspondent confirmed that dust, grass and rodents have taken over the some section of the facility, which it was learnt gulped millions of naira of tax payers monies.
Multiple sources told our correspondent that workers of the NPA did not patronise the facility due to government bureaucracy and incompetent hands.
NPA in 2019 as part of the International Women’s Day celebration unveiled standard crèche at the Lagos Premier Ports Apapa, a project it hopes to replicate in other Port locations nation-wide, to assist nursing mothers concentrate better on the job.
The NPA under the Hadiza Bala Usman administration in 2019, believed it was call to expose women to greater opportunities.
The anchor during the year’s celebration has been identified as the acceleration of progress for gender equality.
Similarly, operational vehicle spotted by our correspondent has been abandoned by management of the NPA at the port complex.
A Toyota Hiace bus tagged “Lagos Pilot” has been laying fallow with flat tyres at the bull nose end of the port.
It was gathered that the NPA recently purchased a brand new bus for boarding crew in line with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) as introduced by the federal government .
Industry watchers lamented that the vehicle is as good as the new to carry our operational activities within the port premises, saying the vehicle has been idling away for no just cause.
According to them, the vehicle has been abandoned at a particular spot for close to a year.
