TRAGEDY: Boat Mishap Kills Pregnant Woman,16 Missing On Lagos Waters

A pregnant woman has been confirmed dead in a boat mishap that occurred in Ikorodu area of Lagos State,at about 10 pm on Saturday.

Three passengers  have  reportedly survived the incident while 16 others declared missing.

According to reports, the boat which was transiting from Badore to Egbin in Ijede Ikorodu capsized .

Eyewitnesses have disclosed that none of the passengers wore a life jacket when the incident happened.

The survivors said the boat driver who was not on duty, was returning from where he had gone to repair his boat when he met them and they pleaded with him to take them to Egbin.

The boat was said to have capsized shortly after takeoff even as the driver is said to be among the missing passengers.

Meanwhile, Lagos Area Manager of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Engineer Mu’Azu Sambo ,when contacted did not respond to calls as at press time.
