A clearing agent operating at Tin can Island Port on Saturday slumped at controversial Hannover General Bonded Terminal after attempt to clear his consignment out of the facility.
Recall that freight agents had protested last Thursday over delay in the clearance of their cargoes from the terminal due to lack of handling equipment and demurrage charges by the terminal operator.
But DAILYFOCUS NEWS ONLINE, confirmed that the agent ,simply identified as Henry Onwukwe , 35 struggled on Friday to exit one of the two consignment out of the facility but later slumped in the process .
A close associate who spoke to our correspondent on Sunday , exclusively , explained that Late Henry , who hailed from Enugu State was rushed to Lagoon Hospital in Apapa but was allegedly rejected outrightly by officials of the hospital.
The associate who simply identified himself as Uchenna Edulonu alleged that the agent slumped at Hannover Terminal at about 6pm local time and was rushed to Lagoon hospital immediately .
According to him, the agent was later referred to Apapa General Hospital at about 7pm, where he was confirmed dead.
Uchenna lamented that stress and possible heart attack might have killed the agent , even as he disclosed that the wife of the deceased is pregnant.
He disclosed also that the corpse of the late agent has been deposited in a mortuary in Enugu on Sunday.
Uchenna said “As we speak am on my way back to Lagos because we left Lagos as early as 4.30am on Sunday and we have successfully deposited the corpse at the mortuary in Enugu .
Sources told our correspondent that Late Henry was one of the agents assigned to report any demurrage charges and other irregularities happening at the facility to the Nigerian Shippers’ Council but met his untimely death two days after.
