TRADE FACILITATION: Shippers’ Council Orders TICT To Stop “Delivery Charges ” On Export Cargoes
The Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) has directed port concessionaire; Tin Can Island Containers Terminal (TICT) Limited to stop the collection of delivery charges on all export cargoes designated for its facilities.
The Council further urged TICT to ensure that tariff nomenclature (delivery charges) on their export transaction invoice be permanently expunged .
According to a Complaint Newsletter, an in-house publication of the Nigerian Shippers Council a copy sighted by DAILYFOCUS NIGERIA, the directive followed a letter received from an indigenous company, Harlink Investment Limited against TICT .
Briefing the meeting, the publication quoted Mohammed Ambi, Head of Complaint, NSC saying that the council received the matter from the company alleging that TICT imposed the delivery fee on each of their export containers.
The tabloid further revealed the containers as: EBKGO8175277, EBKGO8219074, EBKGO8230998, EBKGO8244050, EBKGO0261890 and EBKGO8317967.

The mediation meeting convened by the council was attended by the complainant, Managing Director of the company, Alhaji Nofiu Inaolaji,while TICT was represented by Messrs Tunde Owoeye and Merit Eshameh.
Acting on the letter earlier written by the market analysis and tariff administration division of the regulatory service department,the Complaints Unit advised the terminal to step down and stop further charges
The Complaints Unit urged TICT to go through the container number and refund the delivery charges already collected from the consignor, Harlink Investment Limited accordingly.
Responding ,TICT representatives apologized and informed the meeting that the terminal would expunge the charges as a result of the mediation intervention.
According to the tabloid, the complainant Inaolaji said that his company appreciated the council for the intervention and reiterated his earlier request that the charges should be discontinued.
After the deliberations which lasted for one and half hour, all parties involved agreed that ; TICT expunge delivery charges from their invoice for all export cargoes and that the port concessionaire should refund the already paid delivery charges to the consignor.
Also, the terminal operator was urged to refund the already paid delivery charges to the consignor, Harlink Investment Limited and update the Council.
The consignor on his volition,let off the refundable sum of N804,121.04 while NSC enjoined the company to maintain the existing cordial business relationship with the concessionaire.
