Tompolo’s Acquittal By FHC Vindicated Us—- Group
The Centre for Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Crusade,(CHURAC) has stated , that the group has been vindicated by acquittal of the alleged criminal charges levelled against the former leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta,MEND, High Chief Oweizide Government Ekpemupolo, Alias Tompolo.
CHURAC in a statement on Wednesday, said the acquittal has shown that the former warlord was just being persecuted by his traducers.
Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had declared the Niger Delta freedom fighter wanted during his first tenure.
According to the statement credited to the Publicity Secretary, Comrade Oyinkedi Fuofegha maintained that:”We knew that the EFCC was just being used by Tompolo’s enemies as a cannon fodder to witch hunt the man.
“We also knew from the beginning that the man would be vindicated at the test of time. We believe the world can now appreciate our cry for justice, when we were condemning the manner Tompolo and his Company, Global West Specialist Vessel Limited were being persecuted.
“We make bold to say that Tompolo was only being persecuted by his detractors, especially for the altruistic services he has rendered to the nation through NIMASA which some agents provocateurs saw as an impingement of their fraudulent business interests in the Niger Delta.
“We are grateful to God Almighty and to the Nigerian judicial system. We see this victory as a victory for our collective interest as a nation and for the economic stability in the oil sector.
“We appeal to Nigerians from all works of life, especially the political class to play our politics with brotherly love for the promotion of our corporate unity. Let us eschew political bickering or politics of division.
“We also appeal to Tompolo to use his victory at the Court to render more altruistic services to the nation. He should forgive and forget every grievances he perhaps had in mind towards his detractors. The time to heal the old wound is now as Nigeria needs his services one way or the other.
“To the government of Nigeria, Tompolo remains not only an ambassador of peace but also a source of economic growth in the Country.
“We therefore urge President Buhari to renew his contract with NIMASA once it has expired. At this critical period of our very existence, especially arising from the global pandemic which has affected the economy of the world, we need the likes of Tompolo to add value to our dwindling economy. His services are needed at this point in time to recoup the economy.”
