Bayelsa State Wrestler Blessing Oborududu has won the first silver medal for Nigeria in the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Oborududu who had carried the hope of team Nigeria for a Gold medal lost 4-1 to her opponent USA’s Tamyra Mensah-Stock in the final of the women’s freestyle 68kg Tuesday.
Blessing Oborududu is the first Nigerian wrestler ever to win a silver medal at the ongoing Games.
This adds to the earlier bronze won by long jumper, Ese Brume, in the long jump final.
The Bayelsa-born queen is one of the athletes adopted by Governor Douye Diri under the Adopt-An-Athlete Initiative of the Federal Ministry of Sports.
