Tambuwal Wins Sokoto South Senatorial District Election

After much tension soaked moments over the preceding weeks, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state minutes ago emerged as an elected senator of Sokoto South senatorial district.

Governor Tambuwal was declared  winner on Sunday of the supplementary election by the Sokoto state Resident Electoral Commissioner of Sokoto state, Prof. Abubakar Bagudo.

According to Prof. Bagudo, the Governor, who ran under the aegis of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, polled 100,860 to floor his opponent, Senator Ibrahim Abdullahi Danbaba of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 95,884.

A breakdown of the result indicated that Gov. Tambuwal, as at yesterday evening scored 1131, 600, 1949 and 1442 in Yabo, Tureta, Shagari and Bodinga local government areas while Danbaba got 2032, 749, 2503 and 1515 respectively.

The Governor also lost Dange/Shuni and Kebbe local government areas to Danbaba by 4,593 to 2,667; and, 1380 to 446 respectively. But the table turned this morning when Governor Tambuwal thrashed his serving rival by clearing his home base Tambuwal local government area.

The returning officer declared that: “Waziri Aminu Tambuwal of the Peoples Democratic Party, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner. He is returned elected.”
