STREETS RENAMING IN AJEGUNLE: Osho Drive, Kirikiri Road Affected, As Daddy Showkey, Sanwo Olu,Kalejaiye Top List

Leaders of the Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government has concluded plans to rename some streets in Ajegunle after politicians and entertainer.

Reasons behind the new appellation is hinge on revenue drive but sources close to the authorities disclosed that grassroot politicians top the list of new appellation.

Our correspondent over the weekend , gathered that the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu, Federal House of Representative members under Ajeromi Ifelodun constituency Hon. Paul Kalejaiye and ghetto soldier Daddy Showkey made the list of the rechristen streets.

A total of 24 streets have been pencilled down for new appellation, according to the authorities of the Ajeromi Ifelodun LGA.

Popular streets like Mba, Kirikiri Road, Achakpo, Hospital Road, Ugbowankwo, Jones Waribi, Uzor , etc will be affected in the exercise.

It was gathered that Mba Street will be rechristen “Sanwo Olu Road”,:while George Street will be named after Daddy Showkey.

Hon. Paul Kalejaiye will be christen Uzor street.

Other notable streets affected in the exercise are – Osho Drive, which will soon be called ” Musibau Olowa Street”, Kirikiri Road will be changed to Oba Olu Iwa Road and Achakpo Street will soon be called Rabiu Olowa Street.

Meanwhile,reactions have continued to trail
the recent renaming of streets in the Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government among residents of Ajegunle, with many feeling that the changes undermine the community’s rich and diverse history.

The Individuals from various backgrounds have expressed their concerns over the selection of names that appear disconnected from the local culture and heritage.

They call on Hon. Fatal Adekunle Ayoola, the chairman of Ajeromi Ifelodun, to reconsider the implications of this decision, saying the new names reflect a worrying trend of tribal favoritism that undermines the unity Ajegunle has proudly maintained.

They said “While it is essential to recognize individuals for their contributions, using street names as a political tool is a misstep that can have lasting repercussions. As residents of this vibrant community, we deserve streets that celebrate our shared history and values rather than serve as a means of political compensation. It is crucial for the leadership to listen to the voices of the people and rectify this error before it creates further division within our beloved Ajegunle. Ajegunle belongs to all of us.”
