The Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations of Government Owned Companies (SSASCGOC) Maritime Branch has called on the in-coming President General Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) , Comrade Francis Bunu Abi to follow the footsteps of his outgoing boss, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju as part of measures to succeed.
President of SSASCGOC Maritime Branch, Comrade Akinola Bodunde in a chat expressed satisfaction for Adeyanju leadership style, saying that for the incoming PG to succeed, there is the need to work closely with other sister unions and stakeholders in the maritime industry.
Akinola while emphasizing the success stories of the outgoing PG, maintained that unionism cannot thrive in isolation, hence the need for the next leadership of MWUN to ensure that collaboration with the critical stakeholders be upheld, mostly as it affects workers welfare and industry peace in port operations.
The President stated that the two unions have enjoyed a robust working relationship in harmony devoid of crisis under Adeyanju in the last eight years.
He added that Bunu presentation, ideologies and approaches to issues linked to port operations and the maritime sector would further determine the future relationship between SSASCGOC Maritime and MWUN.
According to him, Comrade Bunu should emulate the leadership pattern of his boss noting that working with Adeyanju may not be automatic ticket to work with the new leadership.
While recalling , the interaction with the MWUN leadership during the endorsement of Bunu by Adeyanju at the SSASCGOC Maritime Branch Secretariat, Bodunde re-echoed the need to work together as a team.
The support for the incoming will be determined by his own ideas , approach, and relationship.
*For Comrade Adeyanju, he is a listening leader ,we share ideas together, and we are patterns in progress in the struggle, and it was all win-win for both parties .
For the incoming administration, the Senior Staff union boss maintained that “Immediately he (Bunu) comes in , he should start with carrying people along, he should make the union a home for everybody.”
Bodunde also stressed the need for both unions to work together in continuity for the benefit of workers’ welfare in the maritime industry, pointing out that the SSASCGOC Maritime enjoyed a robust working relationship under the Adeyanju administration.
He stated that the honour for Comrade Adeyanju by the senior staff union, was a strong signal to those that will succeed the outgoing PG MWUN, because according to him, the new leaders cannot work isolation in furtherance to “Injury to one is injury to all”.
