Signing Chartered Bill Into Law Will Revolutionize Transport Sector….CIOTA President 

The Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIOTA) has assured that signing of the Chartered Institute Administration Transport bill into law by President Muhammadu Buhari would revolutionise the transport subsector of the economy.

The President of the Institute, Bashir Jamoh made the statement in Lagos on Monday during the maiden press conference of the Institute after it became chartered.

Jamoh said CIOTA had professionasl that can proffer lasting solution to the challenges confronting the transport sector, noting that with research by its members, issues facing the industry would be a thing of the past.

Jamoh who lauded the federal government’s efforts in clearing the gridlock, added that the Institute would lend its hands in supporting the government to rid the area of gridlock.

The CIOTA President who also doubles as the Executive Director of Finance and Administration of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety (NIMASA) stated that the Institute was working towards achieving the feat but added that it had some few challenges it needs to overcome.

He said the institute will employ the service of Youth Corp members for eradication of the perennial Apapa gridlock.

His words, “The establishment of committee headed by vice president shows seriousness of the Ffederal Government to get rid of gridlock.

“CIOTA will not go to sleep we will continue to give our professional advice to the FG to bring lasting solution to this problem.

“Whatever we are going to do is going to be advisory and advocacy. I mentioned that we are going to bring NYSC members on Board as volunteers to see how we can help in reducing the traffic and gridlock in Apapa.

“We are working towards that but we still have some challenges and we are working hand in hand with authorities concerned to see what we can do in line with FG agenda to bring to the fore and foreclose this issue of gridlock

Speaking earlier, the CIOTA boss highlighted some of the objectives of the Institute which according to him, include setting standards of practice and determining the knowledge to be attained by persons seeking to become registered members of the Institute and practice as Chartered Transportater and reviewing those standards from time runtime as circumstances may require.

“Secure, in accordance with the provisions of this Act, the establishment and maintenance of register of students, associates members, members and fellows of the Institute and the publication from time to time of the list of those members entitled to practise as chartered transporters.

“Perform such other functions as may be necessary for the advancement of the Institute and the Transport management profession.

“We will continue to train professionals and also advise government and all stakeholders to adopt and implement global best practices in Transport Administration.

“We will build a reputation as a world class institute of Transport Administration by providing and advancing topnoch study, training, certification and practice of transport management and administration in Nigeria and other related matters.

“We will also expand the transportation practice footprint across Nigeria by becoming a reputable institute nationwide based on the mandate of the Act.

“The six two political zines will be duly covered to lead specific transportation related initiatives from water in the South South to rail and inland in the north west roads in the east; north central will focus on pipelines/cable transport and aviation in the Lagos hub of the South West.

“We will establish valuable partnership and strategic alliances with all target stakeholders. From the federal ministry of Transportation to other related MDAs in aviation, roads, rails, maritime, pipeline; transport Labour NURTW,” he stated.

Recall President Buhari last week signed the institute bill into law .
